For the past couple of years, we have used this time of the year to take a proper break from work – taking advantage of the quiet time, when most of our clients and partner organisations also enjoy holiday breaks.
This year we decided not to take the whole of July off, as we have some exciting events coming up in August and wanted to spend the time preparing for these (more on this below).
So, keen to have some time away, and taking advantage of the fact that, for the first time in ten years, we were child-free for more than a couple of days (Sophie off to Camp America for two months and Matthew with his dad for two weeks), we packed up the campervan, created space for our two wee dogs and headed off – with no real plan of where we were going, just a vague notion of exploring the north east coast of Scotland.
And it was wonderful!
We are normally much more prepared when we go away on holiday but the spirit of adventure and the notion of seeing where the mood took us was our guide. After exploring the East Neuk of Fife for the first few days (and finding some beautiful spots along the way), we made a spontaneous decision to drive to Orkney – somewhere we’d never visited but always wanted to go. Our three days on the island rewarded us with sunshine, beautiful beaches, peaceful villages, some lovely food and a bit of sea swimming and paddle boarding for me and Nelly (Michele and Harvey happy to watch from dry land).
We leaned into our ten days without the usual home comforts – and distractions. We encountered the kindness of strangers and enjoyed the sublime beauty of our country.
I guess you know you’ve had a good break when you come back already planning the next adventure. We fulfilled the definition above, the relaxing recreation bringing some much-needed rest and recuperation.
And now that we are back, we are feeling focused and energised for our events – a series of Coaching Cafes that will run on Zoom every Wednesday, from 7th August onwards, from 12-1pm.
Each session we will be inviting you to explore different aspects of coaching in an interactive discussion. Each fortnight we offer a 45 minute, theme-based workshop, from starting the coaching journey to cultivating coaching cultures, and every other week, we will host a drop-in open session, exploring whatever topics or questions participants bring.
If you or someone you know is looking to train as a coach, these events are a great way of finding out more about the coaching world and how it works. If you are already an experienced practitioner, this lunchtime series is a wonderful way to connect with others and sharpen your saw – and they are all free!
